A small organisation, doing a specific job

Single Snowflake has no paid staff and has been kept going largely out of our founder's own pocket. Anything you give goes into three things, and we'll tell you exactly which ones.

As a nonprofit organization and not a registered charity, Single Snowflake MGAA is unable to provide charitable tax receipts.

What your gift makes possible

  • Pamphlets in clinics

    Printing and restocking MG information in clinics and specialists' offices across the region. This is the thing that reaches somebody before they have even heard the words — a leaflet in a waiting room, on the day the symptoms finally get taken seriously.

  • The annual walk

    Permits, signage, water, printing and the small costs that add up around an event held every June in Halifax. It has been the largest MG awareness moment on the East Coast for five years running.

  • MG Warrior Gatherings

    Room hire when we meet in person, the video platform when we meet online, and bringing in guest speakers. The running cost of somebody not having to wait twenty years to meet another person with MG.

This is how we take donations today. It costs us nothing in fees, which means the whole of what you send goes to the work.

  1. Send it to our email address

    The recipient is:

    That is the same address you'd use to email us — it goes to the organisation, not to a person's private account.

  2. Put your name and information in the message

    In the message or memo field, write your name and a way to reach you — otherwise a donation can arrive with no way for us to thank you. If the gift is in memory of someone, put their name there too.

    You won't be asked to set a security question. Our account has auto-deposit switched on, so the transfer lands on its own.

Contact us by email for our mailing address and instructions on how to send your donation. Cheques are made payable to Single Snowflake Myasthenia Gravis Advocacy Association.

Money isn't the only thing that helps

If giving isn't something you can do right now, none of this is closed to you. Walk with us in June. Volunteer. Invite us to talk to your workplace. Tell one person what myasthenia gravis is.

Questions about giving

  • Will I get a tax receipt?

    As a nonprofit organization and not a registered charity, Single Snowflake MGAA is unable to provide charitable tax receipts.

    We will still confirm that your donation arrived, and tell you what it is going toward.

  • Where does the money go?

    Into pamphlets, the walk, and the Gatherings — the three things described above. Single Snowflake has no paid staff; our founder runs it in an unpaid role and has funded much of it out of her own pocket.

    We are an advocacy association, not a research foundation. Donations here do not fund medical research or anyone's treatment.

  • Can I give something other than money?

    Yes, and it's often more useful. Your time, your skills and supplies we'd otherwise have to buy all help — and so does simply telling one person what myasthenia gravis is.

    You can also invite us to speak to your workplace, school or community group. Email us and we'll talk about what would work.

  • Can I give in memory of someone?

    Yes. Put their name in the e-transfer message, or tell us in an email, and we'll make sure the gift is acknowledged properly.

    With your permission, we can also read their name at the Annual MG Awareness Walk.
